K.C. Style BBQ Sauce

One of the things I most look forward to in the summer months is all the smoked meats & veggies my husband makes (smoked corn on the cob is out of this world!  If you don’t believe me give it a try – then let’s talk).  When enjoying some delicious smoky meats one needs to have a yummy BBQ sauce to go with it.  This one is just perfect in my opinion.  It’s smoky, sweet and tangy.  Honestly, what more can you ask for in a BBQ sauce?  Happy summer and cookout season!

2 cups ketchup

2 cups tomato sauce

6 ounces tomato paste

1 -1/4 cups brown sugar

1- 1/4 cups red wine vinegar

1/2 cup molasses

5 teaspoons liquid smoke

2 tablespoons butter

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon chili powder

1 teaspoon paprika

1/2 teaspoon celery seed

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon cayenne

salt and pepper to taste

In a large pan over medium heat, combine ketchup, tomato sauce, tomato paste, vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, liquid smoke & butter.  Season with garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, paprika, celery seed, cinnamon, cayenne, salt & pepper.

Simmer on low heat for 20-25 minutes.
