Yummy Chocolate Squares
As I shared in a prior post, I have started a new collection of vintage/antique cookbooks. This recipe is one that I found in a 1950’s junior cookbook. This particular book I thought would be especially nifty for my children. However, I am pretty in love with all the photos and kitschy drawings. So with my two youngest in tow we set out to make these tasty little confections. They had a ball, and as always I love every minute we get to spend in the kitchen together.
1 lb. mini marshmallows
3 tablespoons butter
8 oz. semi sweet chocolate chips
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup walnut pieces (you can omit this if you do not want nuts)
1 cup crisp rice cereal
Grease a 8-inch square pan.
In a large pot melt butter and marshmallows over medium low heat. Add in the chocolate chips, and stir until melted.
Take off of heat and stir in the vanilla, salt, walnuts(if using) & crisp rice cereal.
Spread in the prepared pan. Then let set up in the refrigerator.
Once set cut into 36 squares.
